Pumpkin Stew

🎶 “Pumpkin stew, pumpkin stew, what shall we put in the pumpkin stew?” 🎵

I remember singing that song a lot around this time of year growing up. Let’s be real- I still sing that song around this time of year! But this time is so exciting. Halloween kick starts the festivities with dressing up and getting lots of candy! That leads into Thanksgiving, and then we get to eat so much food !! Christmas come following swiftly and we treasure these fun-filled times with our friends and family.

This year, my kids are both old enough to have a fun time with trick-or-treating. Only problem is - our church’s trunk-or-treat festivities are happening right when a dear friend of ours is getting married! Oh well, guess we’ll have to figure out another way to do Halloween this year. I have played with making the kids’ costumes this year, but my husband and I can’t seem to agree on characters. Maybe we should try to decide a year early and next year I can make all of the costumes.

While it is fun to dress up, there is a reason we only do it once a year. It’s hard to pretend to be something you’re not! Think about your life right now. Are there times you are “faking it?” Take some time to do some self-reflection and see if you are hiding who you truly are to please other people.

Maybe you are doing it to fit in or maybe you are trying to look like you have it all together so you won’t be judged. Remember that God made you who you are and you shouldn’t have to change yourself or lie about who you are. You are a child of God and that is the most important part of who you are. Allow God to help you and make you what He wants you to be, and that mask will seem less and less necessary.

In the meantime, pray for God’s guidance, be in His word and follow Him to the best of your ability. He will give you strength to continue your journey in this life. And while Halloween is here, dress up like something totally different just for fun!! Make believe with the kids and help them to use their imaginations.

What are you going to be this year? Let me know in the comments!!

Thankfulness

At this time of year, we begin to think about all of the blessings we have and all of the people who are less fortunate. Sometimes it can be hard to notice how much we have, especially when it comes
